Because of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Monterey county, California offers some of the most spectacular diving in the world. While many tropical warm water pansies find the water too cold, the central coast waters are home to a fantastic variety of life with which even the most prolific coral reefs can't compete.

On land, Monterey has a fairly mild climate year-round. We rarely see temperatures below 45 or above 85. The only problem is that the seasons don't accurately predict the weather. For example, in summer and spring we often have cold, wet morning fog.

The best time to dive Monterey is autumn and early winter. Due to upwelling, spring and summer tend to be the times of colder water temperatures and poor visibility. Winter can be exceptionally good if you can catch a calm day.

Visibility tends to be 10-30 feet, though sometimes much greater. Water Temperature can get up to around 60 degrees , but is usually in the mid to lower 50's.

The Pacific can get treacherous at times so you are coming from a great distance you might want to check the local weather forecast. We sometimes have to postpone our dives based on ocean conditions. And as a rule, morning dives are generally better for visibility.
